In this beginners bookbinding workshop, you'll be creating your very own bookcloth, then making a set of three fabric covered notebooks using a simple introductory binding stitch.

In addition to our notebook project, you'll learn how to put together an essential toolkit for binding, what to look for when choosing and using paper stocks and a couple of handy tricks for finishing off your books.

Participants will leave with their new notebook set, instructions for how to make bookcloth and notebooks, plus templates for cutting and binding so that you can continue creating at home.

This class is suitable for ages 16+, no prior experience with bookbinding is necessary! All materials and tools will be provided, however if you have a fabric that you would like to work with, bring it along and we can see if it's suitable.

We'll take a short break mid-way through our class to refresh and refuel.

A Type of Cloud is inspired by warm words, simplicity, and marks made by hand. We draw on vintage ephemera, art history, and the written word to create everyday objects that invite quietude, joy, and connection.

Artist and printer Jo Olive begins each collection with pen to paper—working through collage, drawing, and relief printmaking before bringing designs to life on vintage presses. It's a hands-on process that connects us to printing history and the quiet pleasure of making things by hand.
